Broadcast messages for DOORS 8.3 users - Any alternatives?

Hello All,
While DOORS 9.2 is the standard where I work, there are still two groups of folks that have no choice but to continue working on DOORS 8.3 for a while. DOORS 9.2 allows the database administrator to send out instant broadcast messages to all DOORS useres. DOORS 8.3 does not -and we night to do this on a nightly basis for DOORS 8.3 users via an automated mechanim. Is there a viable alternative to do something similar for users on DOORS 8.3? Any input would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

Pranav

If your users access DOORS via Citrix you can use the Citrix Management Console to send adhoc messages to them.

Hello Ken,
Unfortunately, very few users access this particular database via Citrix. Any other options? Please do let me know. Thank you for acknowledging my post.

Hello Pierre,
Thank you for your prompt acknowledgment of my post. Here is the deal. Our database server is on DOORS 8.1. Around 50% of our users log in to this database with the DOORS 8.3 client and the other 50% logs in with DOORS 8.1. Do both the client AND the server have to be at DOORS 8.3 for the broadcast message to work. Furthermore, can the broadcast message be timed via a scheduled task? Any input on this would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Pranav

If you have access to the server desktop, try the following (for Win2k server):
Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
Action (menu) -> All tasks -> Send Console message...

Dohhh, my last suggestion will probaably only work for Citrix as well.
How about:
  • sending users an email thru DOORS (better than nothing?)
  • using the messaging facility that DOORS uses to request a module lock

According to DOORS Help on the subject, it's the server that needs to be at 8.2 or higher, the clients can be pre-8.2.

Ken,
Your last post was the answer I was looking for. A simple database server upgrade should be super-easy. Thank you so much for your help.

PranavC, Did you manage to send a scheduled broadcast message? We have the same problem, and need to send an automated message at night - how does one package up the broadcast message command?
Many thanks
